I was working as expediter and as a server at a restaurant that had just opened before Covid-19 began. With the closing, they started doing take out and then finally limited outdoor seating. I was asked to come back but felt very uncomfortable as an immunocompromised person. I’m lucky enough that my management understood, however I am one of the 40% of people who do not qualify for unemployment and I have been struggling to get by.

The success of our campaign depends on raising the funds necessary to win the fight One Fair Wage. Nobody deserves to make a subminimum wage. Help us Get rid of the two tiered wage system and fight to make sure all workers are paid One Fair Wage. We can only do this with your help. Our success depends on you.
One Fair Wage is a national coalition, campaign and organization seeking to end all subminimum wages in the United States and increase the sustainability of wages and working conditions in the service sector. One Fair Wage policy would require all employers to pay the full minimum wage with fair, non-discriminatory tips on top, that would lift millions of tipped and subminimum wage workers nationally out of poverty.
WORKER STORIES
Natasha
Bartender, NYMy mom is an essential worker who got COVID while working. Shortly after, her company shut down and she had to find another job. During her search it was hard for her to find a company who offered health insurance and she has continued to struggle financially to make ends meet. I was a waitress, a busser, a runner and a hostess for a couple of years and I know how hard it is to make ends meet when you are living off of tips. Demanding One Fair Wage for service workers and tipped professionals is something I am extremely passionate about and I won’t stop until everyone has a liveable wage.
